An afternoon tea is made from the tea plant the Camellia sinensis, as all black teas are. The tea leaves are fully oxidized, which gives the tea a hearty deep rich flavour with an amber colored brew. What is the difference between an afternoon blend and a breakfast blend? It is all about where the Camellia Sinensis plant comes from. Think of a grape. Depending on where it is grown will determine the type of wine that is created. The same thing goes for tea. All elements determine the strength of the tea’s flavour like, rain, soil and the region that it is grown in. An afternoon blend has less of a bite as a breakfast blend. The quality is still very high, it is just not as brisk. Afternoon Teas have as much caffeine as Breakfast Teas.
