The concept of curry was brought to the West by British colonialists in India from the 18th century. The term curry is an anglicized name for the word Kari derived from South India. A study in the November issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism suggests turmeric, one component of curry spice, almost completely prevented joint swelling in mice with arthritis. So there is even more reason to dig in.
